Deborah Marlene

Deborah Marlene, has been a Calaveras County Resident and lived in the Central Sierra’s, for nearly 30 years. She currently resides in Mokelumne Hill, where she has her in Home Studio. Her patio will be open to the public for the Calaveras County Arts Council studio tour in late September 2023. This is a great chance to meet the artist, view all her latest work, and help support the Arts.

Deborah loves watercolors, which she began studying in 1997, with Lura Francis. She also attended numerous Watercolor workshops with many renowned local artists, when first starting out with this medium. She says that she is constantly learning new tricks on how to control Watercolors. A more recent expression has been working with Alcohol Inks on tiles and Yupo paper. "Watercolor on Yupo paper cannot be beat for color intensities, and is much more forgiving than standard paper." says Deborah.

Deborah belongs to the Arts of Bear Valley and the Calaveras County Arts Council, participating in most of their venues. She also volunteers and shows at the Calaveras County Fair.

Deborah Marlene, also does Commissioned Watercolor pieces of local homes in the Gold Rush area. (See "Kathey's Cottage" in the Gallery.)

Deborah has been to France 5 times and loves its South Western Area. The two paintings, "Rennes le Chateau" and "Quillan" were done on her last trip in 2019. She is enjoying organizing and leading Artistic tours to Le Monastere, in Limoux, France. Her next trip will be in 2023. "Besides artistic inspiration; the people, food, wines and fantastic scenery are all part of this wonderful experience."

Deborah enjoys teaching art and is gradually getting back into that with the easing of the pandemic. She had one student who studied with her from the age of 8 to 18. "It is wonderful to share the healing of art.", says Deborah.
